Lessons learned teaching broadcast audio on a university TV production truck
This paper will describe the discovery of learning opportunities and the evolution of teaching strategies in Middle Tennessee State University's mobile broadcast audio curriculum.  MTSU has a five-year history of recording live musical performances at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival using an outside-broadcast truck crewed by video and audio production students.  Along with incremental changes to the audio systems design over this period, there have been parallel developments in team management and instructional methods to support student learning.  A live broadcast environment presents novel challenges to audio students who are accustomed to traditional studio recording.  But with suitable methods, including safeguards that permit experimentation and discovery, remote productions can be a valuable complement to studio-based audio instruction.
