Hip-Hop, Technology and the Popular Music Curriculum
Although hip-hop producers innovated and created many of our modern “in-the-box” production techniques, hip-hop music has been largely sidelined in popular music programs. Only recently have educators begun to adopt “hip-hop ensembles" in curricula which have - to date - favored classical ensembles, electro-acoustic music, pop, and rock. Join Leslie Gaston-Bird and Prince Charles Alexander for a discussion on techniques you can incorporate in your hip hop performance pedagogy, and an exploration of the methods being used to fight the stigma of hip-hop as a teaching tool.
